S04 duo reach the U21 Euros semi-finals

After a 1-1 draw with Austria on Sunday evening (23/6), Germany U21s reached the semi-finals of the U21 European Championships. On top of that, they also secured qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Alexander Nübel started the game, while Suat Serdar came on in the 56th minute.

Germany U21s shine in 6-1 win over Serbia – Nübel only beaten from the spot

The Germany U21 national team have one foot in the semi-final of the EURO U21 Championship. After a 6-1 win over Serbia in Trieste (20/06), in which Alexander Nübel was only beaten from the penalty spot (as was also the case in the 3-1 win over Denmark), the German side lead Group B after taking a maximum six points from two games.

Weston McKennie starts the Gold Cup with a 4-0 win

The US national side began their Gold Cup campaign with a convincing 4-0 win over Guyana on Wednesday morning (19/6). Weston McKennie started the game in Saint Paul/Minnesota and assisted the first goal for Paul Arriola in the 28th minute.

Royal Blues to face FC Twente in pre-season friendly on 23rd July

On Tuesday, 23rd July, FC Schalke 04 will travel to Enschede in the Netherlands to take on FC Twente in a pre-season friendly (19:00 CEST). The newly promoted Eredivisie side, who were also crowned Dutch champions in 2010, will host the match at De Grolsch Veste.

On Monday, Alexander Nübel and the Germany U21s began their U21 Euros campaign with a win. The Germans put in a convincing performance as they beat Denmark 3-1 in Udine.

Successful friendly for Salif Sané

Senegal are ready and prepared for the Africa Cup. Salif Sané and his teammates celebrated a 1-0 victory against Nigeria in their final test ahead of the tournament on Sunday (16/6) in a game held behind closed doors. Idrissa Gueye scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute.

After today’s announcement of the Premier League fixture schedule, Champions League winners Liverpool have had to cancel to planned friendly against Schalke 04, which was due to take place on the 6th August. The two clubs have agreed to attempt to carry out the fixture in 2020.

DFB-Pokal first round draw to take place on Saturday in German football museum

On Saturday, 15th June, the 2019/20 DFB-Pokal first round draw will take place in the German football museum in Dortmund. 2003 Women’s World Cup winner and TV expert Nia Künzer will conduct the draw while DFB vice president Peter Frymuth will oversee proceedings as the 32 ties are determined. The draw will start at 18:00 CEST on Saturday.

S04 loan right-back Jonjoe Kenny from Everton FC

Newcomer from the Premier League: FC Schalke 04 have signed right-back Jonjoe Kenny on loan from Everton for the upcoming 2019/20 season. The 22-year-old (15th March 1997) came through the youth system at Everton and has made 14 appearances for England U21s. Kenny’s contract with Everton currently runs until the summer of 2022. The defender will remain with England at the U21 Euros before joining Schalke’s pre-season later on in the summer.

USA lost their final friendly game ahead of the Gold Cup. Gregg Berhalter’s team were defeated 3-0 by Venezuela on Sunday (09/09) in Cincinnati, Ohio. Weston McKennie played 62 minutes for the hosts.

Two Royal Blues in final Germany U21 squad

Germany’s U21s will look to defend their European Championship title with two Royal Blues in the squad. On Friday (7th June), head coach Stefan Kuntz named both Alexander Nübel and Suat Serdar to his 23-man squad for the upcoming European Championship in Italy and San Marino, which runs from 16th to 30th June. Cedric Teuchert did not make the final squad.
