Alexander Nübel named new Royal Blues captain

On the final day of the pre-season training camp in the Austrian alpine town of Mittersill, Royal Blues head coach David Wagner announced FC Schalke 04’s new captain for the forthcoming 2019/20 season. The American head coach has appointed goalkeeper Alexander Nübel as club captain. The 22 year-old will be assisted by two vice-captains: Benjamin Stambouli and Omar Mascarell.

After a 1-1 draw with Austria on Sunday evening (23/6), Germany U21s reached the semi-finals of the U21 European Championships. On top of that, they also secured qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Alexander Nübel started the game, while Suat Serdar came on in the 56th minute.


Germany U21s shine in 6-1 win over Serbia – Nübel only beaten from the spot

The Germany U21 national team have one foot in the semi-final of the EURO U21 Championship. After a 6-1 win over Serbia in Trieste (20/06), in which Alexander Nübel was only beaten from the penalty spot (as was also the case in the 3-1 win over Denmark), the German side lead Group B after taking a maximum six points from two games.

On Monday, Alexander Nübel and the Germany U21s began their U21 Euros campaign with a win. The Germans put in a convincing performance as they beat Denmark 3-1 in Udine.

Two Royal Blues in final Germany U21 squad

Germany’s U21s will look to defend their European Championship title with two Royal Blues in the squad. On Friday (7th June), head coach Stefan Kuntz named both Alexander Nübel and Suat Serdar to his 23-man squad for the upcoming European Championship in Italy and San Marino, which runs from 16th to 30th June. Cedric Teuchert did not make the final squad.
