Harit stays on the bench in win

After beating Ivory Coast 2-0 in their final World Cup qualification game last night, Morocco sealed their position as leaders in CAF Group C, and with it automatic qualification for the World Cup in 2018. The goalscorers for the North African side were Nabil Dirar (25’) as well as ex-Bundesliga player Medhi Benatia (30’). Amine Harit watched on from the sidelines as his compatriots grinded out the all important victory. The winger is expected back in Gelsenkirchen at the beginning of the week. This qualification marks the fifth time that Morocco have made it to the world’s biggest football tournament – the last time coming in 1998.

Konoplyanka scores the winner in friendly

With Schalke’s Yevhen Konoplyanka in the starting eleven, Ukraine managed to come out as 2-1 victors on Friday against Slovakia. With almost an hour played, the Schalke winger scored the deciding goal for the Andriy Shevchenko’s side and carried them to victory. The 28-year-old was taken off in injury time to rounds of well deserved applause.
