Schalke to face Schwarz-Weiß Essen on July 21st

FC Schalke 04 claimed second place in the 2017/18 season, and in just six weeks’ time, pre-season for the next campaign will begin. And the Royal Blues already have their first friendlies lined up.

Head coach Domenico Tedesco has scheduled the first training session back after the summer break for Sunday, July 1st. On July 2nd, the first team will travel to China for ten days, where two friendlies are planned.

Upon their return from the Far East, Schalke will play their first friendly of the 2018/19 season on German soil on Saturday, July 21st at Schwarz-Weiß Essen. The match against the 1959 DFB Pokal winners will kick off at 16:00 CEST. Essen currently play their football in the Oberliga Niederrhein (the fifth division).

Also scheduled is a friendly on Sunday July 29th (15:00 CEST) against FC Erzgebirge Aue. On the same day, captain Ralf Fährmann and his teammates will head to their training camp in Mittersill. The Royal Blues will be in their Austrian camp for nine days until Monday, August 6th. Two further friendlies are planned for the training camp.

Schalke return to competitive football on the weekend of August 17th, as they contest the first round of the DFB Pokal. The Bundesliga will resume a week later.
