This season, the TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) joins the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series. The VBL is a major milestone on the way to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018 as a joint competition between game publisher Electronic Arts and the national football association DFL.

In the VBL, the best FIFA players are fighting for the official German championship title. From November 2017 to February 2018, participants will have the opportunity to secure a place in the playoffs online.

The playoffs take place in Dr. Thompson’s Seifenfabrik in Düsseldorf. From there, 64 players compete for the highly desired places in the final of the VBL which takes place in the German Football Museum in Dortmund from 31 March to 1 April 2018.

Despite a severe cold, Lukas Schmandt played a good tournament at the PlayStation on Saturday. In his last round before qualifying for the playoff final, the local player had to run against his good friend Strxnger, who competes for  his club FC Basel. Their match was particularly challenging because they usually train together and therefore know each other’s gaming skills as well as their tactics. In the end, Schmandt got narrowly beaten and failed to participate in the final round of the playoffs.

Tim Schwartmann, however, still had the chance to redeem his ticket for the XBox finals on Sunday. He demonstrated his class and finished the group stage without defeat. In the end, Schwartmann underlined his strong performance against M4rv from Bayer 04 Leverkusen and secured his place for the final.

Both winners of the VBL final – and best players at the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – will be on the starting list for the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Series Global Playoffs, taking the FIFA eWorld Cup Champion title one step further. Last year, FC Schalke 04 Esports won the TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga.
