The royal blues are reorganizing its League of Legends academy: FC Schalke 04 agrees with the 25-year-old Chris Würger to not renew the contract of the Berlin-born. Mert Tanrıverdi takes over as Head Coach for European Masters 2020.
“Chris is a very talented and ambitious coach. Despite his age, he already has a wide range of knowledge that he can impart to young players. We thank Chris for his work in the past year and wish him all the best for his future”, said Tim Reichert, Chief Gaming Officer of the royal blues.

Würger, who has been Head Coach of Schalke’s League of Legends academy since 2019, added: “I would like to thank the club, those responsible and the supporters for the trust they have put in me. As a Schalke fan, it makes me incredibly proud to have been a part of the royal blues’ family. I will always remember my time at Schalke well and wish the team all the best for EU Masters.”
In March 2020, Würger won the German Championship with the royal blues’ League of Legends academy. The first place in the Prime League also secured the youngsters the qualification for European Masters 2020. For the European tournament, Mert “Mert” Tanrıverdi will take over as Head Coach.
For European Masters 2020, the royal blues nominate Christian “Sleeping” Tiensuu, Erberk “Gilius” Demir, Daniel “Sertuss” Gamani, Matúš “Neon” Jakubčík, and Risto “SirNukesAlot” Luuri as their starting line-up. Lukas “Lurox” Thoma and Nihat “Innaxe” Aliev, who have already proofed themselves in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), are going to join the competition as substitutes.
As the first club of the Bundesliga, FC Schalke 04 is committed to the youth development in League of Legends. In December 2018, the royal blues founded their own academy to promote promising talents. The S04 thus underlines its pioneering role in electronic sports and also adheres to the values that the club has lived for years.
