PES League: Matthias Winkler wins German Championship

On Saturday (30.3.) the National Final of the PES League was held in Stuttgart. Pro Evolution Soccer professional Matthias "GoooL" Winkler won the German championship for the second time.

As a child, Matthias Winkler spent a lot of time with the football simulation game of the Japanese game developer KONAMI: The passion for Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) quickly increased the desire to take part in further competitions in order to prove his own skills. In 2009 Matthias Winkler won his first German Championship. Ten years later, he succeeds again: With a win over Payam „payamjoon69“ Zeinali in the final round of the National Finals the 35-year-old secured the German Championship in Pro Evolution Soccer for the second time. „It was a highly competitive tournament with extremely strong competition. The fact that I could win the title means a lot to me. I am very proud and happy, „said the experienced PES professional right after the final whistle.

In July 2018, FC Schalke 04 announced the commitment of Matthias „GoooL“ Winkler: „FC Schalke 04 is one of the first football clubs ever to be involved into esports. I was highly impressed by how professional esports is received and addressed by the entire club. You can feel that people are working here, who are fully behind what they do and are convinced of this young sport. In sporting terms, I’m looking forward to exciting duels with other European top clubs, „said Winkler.

By winning the National Finals, „GoooL“ also qualified for the European Championship in April. In addition to Matthias Winkler, Mehrab „MeroMen“ Esmailian and Mike „EL_Matador“ Linden have qualified for the important international event in Porto, Portugal.
