S04 Esports travels to Asia for the first time

As one of the first football clubs, FC Schalke 04 has been engaged in electronic sports since May 2016. Now the Royal Blues are traveling to Asia with its very own esports division. From August 14th to 18th the delegation around FIFA professional Tim "Tim Latka" Schwartmann will be visiting the East Chinese metropolis Shanghai.

„It’s farsightedness and proactive behaviour that make us a pioneer in many ways. In the past three years, we have fully integrated esports into the structures of our club. Accordingly, it’s only logical for Schalke 04 to be the first football club to travel to China with an esports delegation. In Asia, where electronic sports are currently enjoying much greater popularity than in Europe, we would also like to emotionalise people for our core business,“ explains Alexander Jobst, Schalke’s Board Member for Marketing and Communications.

Esports is a business and activity field that has been successfully established in Europe over the past few years, but has already been gaining enormous popularity in Asia and the USA for some time now. To further expand its presence, especially in the Asian region, the Royal Blues will implement various activation measures in Shanghai, one of the most important cultural and educational centers in the People’s Republic of China. In addition to Meet & Greets with their Chinese fans, the miners will be holding numerous media events during their four-day visit.
