S04 is the first club to take part in the opening of the gamescom

FC Schalke 04 is the first football club to participate in the official opening ceremony of the gamescom. This year, the world's largest event for computer and video games and Europe's largest business platform for the games industry will be ceremoniously opened by State Minister for Digitization Dorothee Bär and Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure Andreas Scheuer.

Subsequently, the top German politicians will meet the representatives of FC Schalke 04. The traditional opening tour of the exhibition grounds offers the high-ranking guests the opportunity to exchange views with the Royal Blues about the exemplary development of esports at Schalke.

By this means, Game, the association of the German games industry, and Koelnmesse, the organizer of gamescom, honor the esports commitment of the miners, which serves as a prime example of the compatibility of tradition and innovation.

„Being the first and so far, only football club to be part of the official opening of Europe’s largest computer and video game fair is a special honor for FC Schalke 04 and our involvement in esports. „Together we are Games“ – the main theme of this year’s gamescom focuses on the community. We also define ourselves through the community and the closeness to our fans – also in football as well as in esports. We appreciate the high level of recognition and see ourselves again confirmed in our commitment,“ says Alexander Jobst, Director of Marketing and Communications at FC Schalke 04, welcoming the involvement of the miners.

The opening event of gamescom will take place on August 20th, 2019 at 10:30 AM in the Konrad-Adenauer-Saal of Congress-Centrum Nord. Last year, 1,037 companies from 56 countries presented their new products. 370,000 visitors from 114 countries used the gamescom 2018 as an entertainment and business platform. This makes gamescom the world’s largest event for computer and video games as well as Europe’s largest business platform for the games industry.
