“Tim Latka” wins Kick It E-Sports Tournament, Donates Prize Money Back to Partner Organization

As part of growing initiatives around the world to stay at home and flatten the curve, FC Schalke 04 partner, Kick It 3v3, hosted a digital FIFA tournament this past weekend, drawing a massive 844 competitors from across the globe. The field included none other than Schalke’s own Tim “Tim Latka” Schwartmann, who has been a member of the Royal Blues' FIFA team since 2016.

Schwartmann, who defeated FC St. Pauli in a Bundesliga Home Challenge match with midfielder Nassim Boujellab on Saturday evening, breezed through the qualifying bracket on his way to the tournament final. Schwartmann’s barnstorming run was highlighted by a 12-0 second-round victory over mighty FC Barcelona.

In the final, „Tim Latka“ was pitted against „juanesnino12“, a Colombian professional player who competes in the ePremier League for Leicester City. In this biggest challenge of the tournament, Schwartmann pulled out a victory in the 80th minute through a stunning strike from former Bundesliga star Roberto Firmino. Schwartmann went on to win the final, 5-4, capturing the $300 cash prize.

In a sign of good will with Schalke’s American partner, and in line with club values, Schwartmann will be donating the $300 cash prize to Soccer Without Borders, a charity that uses the power to sport to empower and education underserved youth around the world. Of his victory, Schwartmann said: „From round to round I noticed how the competitors grew better and better. In the final I almost ran out of breath. I’m glad I could win the tournament for a good cause. In these challenging times it is all the more important that we stand united.“
