Schwartmann and Schmandt play for place in VBL final

The TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga (VBL) is being played as the first event of the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series. As a competition from both game producer Electronic Arts and football association DFL, the VBL is an important milestone on the path to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2018. FIFA pros Tim “Tim Latka” Schwartmann plays on Xbox One and Lukas “Idealz” Schmandt plays on PlayStation 4 for FC Schalke 04 eSports.

The best FIFA players from Germany, Austria and Switzerland face each other in the TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga. Two Knappen will be competing for places in the final when the VBL playoffs take place in Düsseldorf on 10th and 11th March. Schalke 04 have named the club’s professional eSports players Tim “Tim Latka” Schwartmann and Lukas “Idealz” Schmandt as holders of the VBL Clubcards.

In the VBL, the best FIFA players compete for the official German championship title. Participants have the opportunity to secure a place in the playoffs online from November 2017 until February 2018. 12 players qualify each month in this period on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The field of participants is completed by 16 VBL Clubcards per console.

After the playoffs, the eight best players per console take part in the grand final of the TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga. The VBL finals will take place on 31st March and 1st April in the German Football Museum in Dortmund. The two finalists of the tournament – the best players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – receive a place in the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series playoffs and march one step closer to the title of the FIFA eWorld Cup.

FC Schalke 04 eSports won the TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga title last year.
