Janik Bachmann: The emotions were indescribable
With two minutes left to play in Paderborn on Friday evening (6/12), Janik Bachmann scored a header to effectively put the game to bed, sealing a 4-2 win for the Royal Blues. "In the moment, I wasn't sure how to celebrate. The emotions were indescribable," the summer signing said about his debut goal for the club.
The 28-year-old also revealed that he had goose bumps after the full-time whistle went as well. “I really enjoyed celebrating together with the fans. I’m very happy that we were able to give them this win,” he said. “It feels incredible.”
Bachmann, who last found the back of the net in Bundesliga 2 in May 2023 while at SV Sandhausen, said the win was “fully deserved.” This opinion wasn’t just shared by Schalke coach Kees van Wonderen and his players, but also by Paderborn boss Lukas Kwasniok.
In the moment, I wasn't sure how to celebrate. The emotions were indescribable.
“It was our best game so far this season for much of the match,” Bachmann said. “We were aggressive in winning our challenges, won several second balls and were also strong in possession. Everyone fought for each other and everyone gave everything for each other.”
This is exactly what the Royal Blues need to deliver in every performance, said Bachmann, adding “That will make it very, very tough to beat us.” The team will be able to enjoy their victory for the rest of the weekend, “But from Monday, our full focus will be on the home game against Düsseldorf,” Bachmann said. “We have another tough opponent ahead of us in Fortuna, and we want to deliver another strong team performance just like we did in Paderborn.”
