Miron Muslic: We can’t wait for the game

FC Schalke 04 host Dynamo Dresden on Saturday (7/2, 13:00 CET) at the VELTINS-Arena. Head coach Miron Muslic spoke before the game about S04’s opponents, who have made a bright start to 2026.

Dynamo Dresden are the league’s best side in the second half of the season, picking up seven points from their three games. They have beaten Greuther Fürth 2-0 and 1. FC Magdeburg 2-1, while they drew 1-1 against Arminia Bielefeld last weekend. That means Saturday’s opponents are still unbeaten since the midway point of the season. “They are on the up and signed a lot of new players during the transfer window,” stated Muslic ahead of the match with the side currently in 16th place. “We also can’t wait for this game and are raring to go.”

The Schalke coach isn’t too concerned with his side’s start to the second half of the season, which has seen the Knappen pick up just two points from their last three matches. “Every team goes through periods like this – it just gives us the chance to come out of it even stronger,” explained Muslic. “Our aim is to take control of the game on Saturday and end our winless run.” The 43-year-old is expecting a different kind of game to the one that Schalke won 1-0 earlier this season. “That was a real battle in the heat. We had to fight really hard to earn the win in Dresden. This will be a totally different proposition.”

The Royal Blues were also active throughout the winter transfer window, bringing in left-back Moussa Ndiaye and midfielder Adil Aouchiche at the start of this week on deadline day. “Adil is extremely versatile and can cover so much ground. He’s also got the technical and tactical ability to really help us,” praised Muslic. “Moussa is also fit, has plenty of minutes in his legs and is an option for Saturday.” Goalkeeper Kevin Müller, striker Edin Džeko and midfielder Dejan Ljubičić also joined the club earlier in the window. “I’m really satisfied with our transfer business – we did everything we set out to do. All the new lads are a great fit for the dressing room and have raised the competition for places again.”

Moussa Sylla back in the squad

Forward Moussa Sylla will also return to the squad to face Dresden, after his transfer away from the club fell through. “We can’t control certain things, but I was more than happy to welcome Moussa back,” reported Muslic. “He’s absolutely clear in his mind and fully focused. I’m glad he’s still here because Moussa gives us real quality and also drives the competition for places.”
