Karel Geraerts: We lacked intensity in the opening 30 minutes
The Royal Blues took too long to find their way into the game against SV Elversberg on Friday night (10/11), with the visitors coming away from the VELTINS-Arena with a 2-1 win. Read on for all the key quotes following the game.
Karel Geraerts:
We had too much respect for our opponents in the first 25 to 30 minutes. We were lacking intensity and weren’t strong enough in the challenges. It just wasn’t good enough. We then found our way into the game and made it 2-1 following a set piece. We started poorly and took too long to start believing in ourselves – you won’t pick up any points like that.
Horst Steffen:
I’m happy that we won the game. We started well into the game and did well in attack, even managing to convert two of our chances. Schalke started to increase the pressure on us as the game went on. I’m pleased with the fighting spirit I saw from my team near the end – it was great to see the lads get stuck in.
Kenan Karaman:
We had high expectations for ourselves going into the game on the back of two wins. We were extremely poor in the first 30 minutes, and Elversberg took full advantage to score twice. We then found our way into the game, but overall it just wasn’t enough from us.
