Karel Geraerts: Missed our chances to make it 2-0 in the first half

Despite leading twice on Friday night (15/12) against Greuther Fürth, the Royal Blues only came away with a point after a decent performance. schalke04.de has summarised the post-match quotes.

Karel Geraerts:

It was a game of two halves today. My team played well in the first half and I was really pleased. We were aggressive without the ball and kept things tight. Our opening goal came at a good time, but we unfortunately didn’t manage to get a second before the break – it would’ve been a different game if we had. The second half went a bit differently as both teams struggled for chances for a while. Our second goal came from almost nowhere. Their second equaliser came from a mistake on our team. It was tough to push for a winner once we had had a man sent off. I’m proud of our first-half performance and the way we fought throughout the whole game.

Alexander Zorniger:

I’m proud of my team’s performance and the fact that they came from behind twice. We weren’t really in the game for the first 25 minutes, but I was impressed with the lads in the second half. We played some good football and created a lot of chances.

Simon Terodde:

We let our lead slip too easily after making it 2-1. We gave our all tonight and obviously wanted to win our last game before the winter break. Looking at the game overall, it was a fair result. We played well in the first half in particular and I had a great chance to score after Kenan teed me up. I should have scored there, there is no excuse for not doing so and that hurts.

Lino Tempelmann:

You’re always unhappy to not win a game you were ahead in twice. We’ve showed what we can do over the last few matches. It was often said that we have quality and we need to show that every single week. I’m confident we’ll manage to do that more often after the winter break.
