Paul Seguin: Conceded far too easily

Following the 4-3 defeat against SpVgg Greuther Fürth, Schalke head coach Kees van Wonderen and Paul Seguin spoke about how the match went for the Royal Blues. schalke04.de have summed up all the key quotes.

Kees van Wonderen:

Everything that could go wrong today, ended up going wrong. The goals we conceded came at bad times and then Felipe Sanchez was shown a second yellow at the start of the second half. We just weren’t good enough in defence and we didn’t generate enough pressure in attack. Conceding four goals at home is far too many. We will analyse the game together.

Paul Seguin:

We wanted to press our opponents high, but we didn’t manage to do that. We conceded far too easily on the opening goal, despite having been in possession. We were able to cut the deficit to 2-1, but then conceded for a third time. We conceded far too easily. At the minute we’re just not good enough, especially in defence. We’re lacking confidence, which we need to earn back by going back to the basics. Our spirit in the second half was good, but the fact remains that we cannot be conceding four goals here.

Leo Haas:

We were extremely dominant today, in my opinion. During the second half, there was a period where we should have put the game to bed. Schalke scored to make it 4-2 and then 4-3, which brought some drama back into the game. I’m very happy that we were able to see the result through to the end.
