Karel Geraerts: We will have a clear plan both on and off the pitch

FC Schalke 04 will travel to face Hannover 96 on Sunday afternoon (7/4, 13:30 CEST), in the hopes of delivering an improved performance.

Head coach Karel Geraerts has made slight changes to his side’s preparations for the match, with the opponent analysis sessions spread out over several days. After going over both attack and defence, Saturday featured an additional in-depth session on set pieces. “There will be additional minor changes. One thing is certain: We will have a clear plan both on and off the pitch,” the coach stated, adding that he will do everything to ensure that his side are fully energised heading into their match-up with the league’s fifth-placed side.

Geraerts kept his cards close to his chest when asked whether or not Assan Ouédraogo, who was subbed on in the 79th minute against Karlsruher SC, would be an option to start in Hanover. The head coach stated that he’s pleased to have the midfielder back to full fitness again. “The role I envision for him is one where he is able to help out the team with his attacking qualities. He’s quick and strong in one-v-ones. He can definitely be an important asset for us in the seven games we have left.”

Karaman and Drexler fit to face Hannover

Brandon Soppy and Ron Schallenberg will both miss Sunday’s game. Geraerts is hopeful that the duo will be able to return to team training next week. Danny Latza and Lino Tempelmann were able to complete parts of team training, while Kenan Karaman (rested at the start of the week) and Dominick Drexler (knock to the calf) both trained in recent days and are available to feature this weekend.

We're up against a team that will demand a lot from us.

Several thousand Royal Blue supporters are expected to accompany their team to Hanover on Sunday. “The fans love this club so much that they support us every day, through good and bad times,” Geraerts said. “We can really use the energy that they give us. Hannover’s focus is on finishing in one of the top three spots in the table. They will be extremely motivated against us. The game is sold out and there will be a great atmosphere. We’re up against a team that will demand a lot from us.”
