Kenan Karaman: Defended their goals badly as a team
After the 3-0 defeat at home to 1. FC Kaiserslautern, head coach Kees van Wonderen and captain Kenan Karaman discussed the game. schalke04.de has collected the post-match reaction.
Kees van Wonderen:
This evening was really disappointing. We wanted to pick up where we’d left off in Hamburg. We showed potential, a good attitude and bravery there, it was a strong version of FC Schalke 04. We unfortunately didn’t see much of that tonight. The goals came at the perfect time for Kaiserslautern and the worst time for us. We now need to fully focus on our next matches.
Markus Anfang:
We’re really happy with how the game went. Even if it ended 3-0 in our favour, we played a really strong Schalke team and they had the first good attack of the game. We took a little while to settle and Schalke did well. We still went into the break 1-0 up and we knew we’d get more chances as the game went on. We then got our second and third goals at the right time.
Kenan Karaman:
We shouldn’t have lost this game 3-0. We had actually picked up some confidence from our last three matches and wanted to show that tonight. Their goals were far too soft, we defended them badly as a team. We didn’t create enough good chances ourselves and that meant we lost against a well-organised Kaiserslautern side. We need to be at our best in every game, otherwise we’ll be punished in this league.
