Miron Muslic: A tough defeat after a strong away performance

After Saturday’s (1/11) hard-fought encounter in Karlsruhe, which the hosts edged 2-1 with a late goal, Miron Muslic reflected on the game in the post-match press conference alongside KSC coach Christian Eichner. Soufiane El-Faouzi also spoke to the media.

Miron Muslic claps the fans after the game.

Miron Muslic:

Conceding their winning goal in stoppage time makes it an incredibly painful defeat, but unfortunately that’s part of football. We put in a good away performance, especially given the circumstances. A few hours before kick-off it became clear that Janik Bachmann couldn’t play, and then Hasan Kuruçay felt something during the warm-up and was also unable to feature.

Even so, after a bit of a slow start, we grew into the game really well. With high intensity we controlled large phases and caused problems for a side with very clear patterns in their play. For 80 to 85 minutes, we showed strong resilience, but we need to keep a cool head in the closing stages. In the moments before both goals, we didn’t recognise the danger quickly enough and we didn’t defend well enough. A draw would have been a fair result.

Christian Eichner:

I’m proud of my team. Anyone who has played against Schalke this year knows how horrible they are to face in the best possible way. Before the game we said that going behind would make things twice as hard, so we wanted to avoid that scenario at all costs. What my team produced in the final 20 minutes after going 1-0 down was outstanding. This win is incredibly important for the dressing room and the team.

Soufiane El-Faouzi:

We were better than we were in Darmstadt but didn’t get what we deserved from today’s game. We should have seen the game out after taking the lead, which we didn’t manage today. As a team we weren’t solid enough. But this defeat won’t knock us off track. We go again next week against Elversberg.
