Miron Muslic: The most important thing now is the Fürth game next week
After the chaotic 5-3 win against 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday (21/2), Miron Muslic and his opposite number, Petrik Sander, were present at the post-match press conference. Kevin Müller spoke following his debut for the club, with Kenan Karaman also talking about the game in the mixed zone. schalke04.de has gathered the most important quotes from the quartet below.
Miron Muslic:
We watched a spectacular game today. Each and every one of the 62,000 fans went home happy today – that’s part of our job. We did a lot of things unbelievably well, especially in terms of the attack. The stats show how threatening, dominant, commanding, and – above all – effective we were in the final third. We displayed the power that we’ve needed for a few weeks up front in superb style.
What we do need to set right and what doesn’t make me happy, though, are the three goals we conceded. Magdeburg, of course, have quality going forward and can conjure up a goal from nothing, but we’re still not happy with the three goals we conceded. It was something we spoke about immediately in the dressing room. At Schalke, we’re always self-critical and try to take the next step in our development – now, it’s all about finding our defensive harmony and structure again. If we unite that with our attack, we’re going to be really tough to play against. The most important thing now is the match against Greuther Fürth next week.
Petrik Sander:
I think it was a great game for the neutral. For me, it wasn’t great – Schalke deserved to win. All in all, the errors that we made led to us going home empty-handed after scoring three goals. It’s disappointing, but we’ve got to learn from it. We’ve got to work on not conceding five goals every game.
Kenan Karaman:
It was a very good attacking display from us today with the five goals, but not everything was good. We’ve got to look at the three goals we conceded again and analyse them in detail. Because it’s important that we find the right balance again. Up front, we had a lot of chances, including quite a few through the new arrivals who have had a super impact on the team and make us more flexible, but at the back we’ve got to make sure that we’re better next week. It’s a special moment when the crowd celebrates behind us, and it’ll give us a boost for the next few weeks.
Kevin Müller:
My debut was an amazing experience for me. Up to now, I’ve only known what it was like to come here as an opponent. In the end, we got the three points – that’s crucial. But we need to talk about the manner in which we won. It goes without saying that there were positive aspects to our attacking play since we scored five goals, but we shouldn’t be conceding five goals because that puts you under pressure again. With a couple of small differences, we could’ve had a much tenser evening, so it goes without saying that it was a real show for a neutral. We’ll take the positives in our stride and continue to work.
