Miron Muslic: It wasn’t all bad, but there was a lot that wasn’t good
Head coach Miron Muslic and his counterpart at Preußen Münster, Alexander Ende, looked back on the 0-0 draw between their sides at the LVM-Preußenstadion on Saturday (22/11). S04 captain Kenan Karaman and Soufiane El-Faouzi then offered their thoughts in the mixed zone. schalke04.de have summed up all the key quotes following today's draw.
Miron Muslic:
It wasn’t all bad but there was a lot that wasn’t good. We had chances of our own before the break and so did Münster. We maybe wanted too much after the red card and lost our shape and structure a bit. If the foul that led to the red card hadn’t happened, then Moussa would have been through on goal and likely would have scored to make it 1-0.
After finding themselves a man down, Münster then did what we’ve done over the last weeks and months, namely defending as a solid block. I have a lot of respect for that. As silly as it might sound, I think if we had been able to finish the game playing 11 versus 11, we would have won. Münster would have continued the play the way they did before the red card, which is tiring to maintain. We would have then been able to pose a real threat in the last 15, 20 minutes. However, despite the result I don’t see this us as having dropped two points tonight.
Alexander Ende:
We picked up a point against an opponent who are deservedly in the top of the table and who are enjoying strong campaign. We were playing well up until the red card, and got what we wanted. There were some excellent moments from us, but we weren’t able to reward ourselves with a goal despite going close several times. We then needed to adjust after the red card. We showed that we’re capable of defending well and threw ourselves into every challenge in order to avoid conceding. Despite playing with a man less for nearly 40 minutes, we barely gave up any chances, which is something that deserves to be acknowledged.
Kenan Karaman:
There were times where we struggled in the first half. Münster did well at passing the ball around and getting themselves out of tricky situations. We managed to win the ball back in key areas often enough, but should have done more with these opportunities. We then struggled to find solutions after the red card and to create clear goalscoring opportunities. We were too sloppy in the final third and weren’t able to control the ball when we needed do, which kept us from getting any good opportunities to shoot. On top of that, Münster also played well. They parked the bus and shut up shop. In the end, we’ll take the point as we need as many of them as we can get.
Soufiane El-Faouzi:
Our aim is to win every game, which we unfortunately didn’t manage to do this time around. We had chances to counter, but didn’t make enough of them after going a man up. Additionally, we didn’t manage to find our way into the penalty box enough. We will keep working on how to find ways of creating chances against an opponent that’s defending deep inside their own half. We’ll make sure to analyse this game well and then place our focus on what’s ahead. On Friday, we’re at home against Paderborn. I’m already looking forward to playing at our home.
