Schalke’s away game against Osnabrück to take place at St. Pauli on 7th May
The city of Osnabrück has ordered the Stadion an der Bremer Brücke to shut with immediate effect due to structural defects in the roof and it will not be possible to resolve the issue before the scheduled kick-off at 13:00 CEST on Saturday (4/5). Therefore, the German Football league (DFL) has decided to reschedule the game. The game will take place at 18:30 CEST on Tuesday (7/5) and it will be played at FC St. Pauli’s Millerntor-Stadion.
The club believe the game could have taken place this weekend (4/5th May), which was also Schalke’s clear priority. The board was aware that at least one neutral venue which filled the set criteria showed a basic willingness on Wednesday to host the game with fans this weekend (1/5).
The requirement for this was the agreement of both clubs. However, VfL Osnabrück, hosts of the clash, rejected this idea of staging the game this weekend at a different venue for various reasons. Scheduling the game against Osnabrück’s will would have had legal risks, which the DFL had to take into account when making their decision – this is understandable for S04.
Instead, the DFL has now made the decision to reschedule the game. It will be played at FC St. Pauli’s Millerntor-Stadion at 18:30 CEST on Tuesday (7/5). The Royal Blues’ board would like to specifically thank FC St. Pauli and the club’s management led by President Oke Göttlich, as well as the DFL, who complied with Schalke’s request to have at least three days of preparation and recovery time ahead of the home game against Hansa Rostock (11/5). The DFL rejected the idea of scheduling the game between matchday 33 and 34, which was welcomed by Schalke 04 in the interests of a fair and equal competition.
