Away game in Osnabrück in danger of being postponed due to stadium closure

VfL Osnabrück informed FC Schalke 04 on Tuesday evening (30/4) that the city of Osnabrück has ordered the Stadion an der Bremer Brücke to shut with immediate effect. The local authorities have issued a temporary order barring the use of the stadium after structural defects in the roof were identified during a regularly scheduled inspection.

At this time, it remains unclear what impact this may have on the match between VfL Osnabrück and the Royal Blues on Saturday (4/5). Schalke 04 have not yet received any official information beyond that found in the statement shared by VfL. A final decision on whether or not the match can take place on matchday 32 as planned will be made by the German Football League (DFL), following official receipt of the order issued by the local authorities.

“We expect the game to take place on Saturday as planned, in order to maintain the integrity of the competition. At this time, it is not possible for Schalke 04 to make an informed judgement on whether this will be possible. It is clear that the safety and health of everyone always takes priority,” shared the S04 executive board.

Schalke 04 will inform its fans, especially those planning to travel to Saturday’s game, of any new developments as soon as possible.
