Miron Muslic: Was only a matter of time before we got our reward
After the 2-1 home win against SC Paderborn 07 on Friday (28/11), Miron Muslic and his opposite number Ralf Kettemann shared their thoughts on the top-of-the-table clash at the post-match press conference. Ron Schallenberg also reflected on the game against his former club.
Miron Muslic:
We performed from the first second today and left everything out there. The win is fully deserved when you consider that, despite playing well, we found ourselves 1-0 down and then came back against the league leaders. The first half was evenly balanced: Paderborn took the lead with their one clear chance. For us, the moment right before the break was absolutely crucial – Moussa Sylla and Kenan Karaman showed their quality brilliantly in that move.
In the second half we put Paderborn under real pressure with our pressing and completely unsettled them, and I’m very proud of that. It was only a matter of time before we got our reward for the effort we were putting in. Bryan Lasme gave us exactly what we needed at the end: runs in behind and pace. The way he finished the winning goal was outstanding.
Ralf Kettemann:
We enjoyed large parts of the first half in terms of our football, we were moving the ball well. But we have to improve in making more out of the situations we create. From the 55th minute onwards the game was being played far too often around our box and we couldn’t keep the ball. So, when you look at the performance and the statistics, you have to say the win for FC Schalke 04 is deserved.
Ron Schallenberg:
We need to stay humble. We’ve only played 14 games, and it’s not as if we’ve pulled away in the table. We need to perform at 100% for 90 minutes plus stoppage time in every game if we want to win. That’s something we have to drum into our heads every single week. We’ve built a really good connection with the fans. After we went 1-0 down, the noise levels went up again because they recognised the effort we were putting in. And once we start to build momentum, this place is always loud anyway.
