Kees van Wonderen: There was nothing good about today’s performance
S04 head coach Kees van Wonderen criticised both himself and his players after the final whistle in Regensburg on Sunday (13/4). On the other hand, Jahn boss Andreas Patz was extremely pleased with his team’s important victory. Captain Kenan Karaman also gave his thoughts after the 2-0 defeat.
Kees van Wonderen:
I’d firstly like to congratulate my opposite number Andreas Patz and his team. It was a disappointing day for us. We came to Regensburg with the aim of reaching the 40-point mark with a victory and failed to do that. There was nothing good about today’s performance and we’re all responsible for that. We knew what to expect but failed to find ways of dealing with them. Some of the things that happened today after hard to explain so soon after the final whistle. None of us were good enough. When we analyse what went wrong this afternoon, I’ll start with myself because I’m the one who chooses the team. We need to play a lot better against Hamburger SV next weekend.
Andreas Patz:
It was important for us to show a reaction after the 6-0 defeat in Elversberg, and we did exactly that, in particular for our fans. We can make life difficult for any side when we play to our strengths for the full 90 minutes. We put in a high-intensity performance, worked hard and got stuck in. It was a really solid showing by the team. This is how we need to play in our final few games of the season. We want to keep giving everything in the coming weeks and show everyone that we’re still alive and kicking.
Kenan Karaman:
That was a really bad performance away from home. We deserved to lose and can only apologise to our fans for this display. They travelled a long way only to be disappointed by us. Regensburg kept things simple with a lot of long balls. They got stuck in and we didn’t match their passion on a pitch that was hard to play football on. Nevertheless, both teams had to deal with it so we can’t use the pitch as an excuse. We simply failed to find a way of being successful today.
