Moussa Sylla: Once again, my expectations have been exceeded

Two goals and one assist in a 5-1 victory: competitive debuts don’t get much better than that. “It was a fantastic start,” commented Moussa Sylla, FC Schalke 04’s new signing from French second-tier side Pau, before adding: “Of course it’s nice to score, but what counts at full time is that we are successful as a team.”

Sylla believes it was a deserved victory against Braunschweig. “I don’t wish to speak about myself too much. We earned this victory together as a team. But it was just the first of 34 games. We’ll need to go again against Nürnberg next week, and to do that, we’ll need to be concentrated and get to work from the first whistle.”

I don’t wish to speak about myself too much. We earned this victory together as a team.

The striker added that the fans’ support will also help them massively: “The way in which our fans cheered us on last night was unbelievable. I’m finding it hard to put into words just how much I was in awe.” Sylla also revealed that he’d been looking forward to making his home debut since the day he signed for S04. “Some of my teammates let me know what I would be in for in the build-up to this game – but it exceeded my expectations.

Even Karel Geraerts informed him before kick-off that he should enjoy the game and the atmosphere. “That’s exactly what I did,” added Sylla. “It was a great experience that I will remember for a very long time.”
