Moussa Sylla: I gambled on the goalkeeper not holding onto the ball
Moussa Sylla hasn’t needed much time to get up to speed auf Schalke, scoring six goals in his first seven games. The Mali international fired home his second brace of the season in the 2-1 away win in Münster on Saturday (28/9). “I’m happy to have been able to score two goals and to have helped the team that way,” said the 24-year-old. “I always work very hard on my game and will keep giving my all in training to get even better.”
The attacker explained that the game at the Preußenstadion certainly wasn’t a walk in the park, describing it as a “hard, competitive game” and explaining that in the end the only thing that counts is getting the three points. “We’re very happy to be able to celebrate our first away win,” said Sylla. “Especially considering we haven’t had much time together with Jakob Fimpel to prepare for the game. All in all, we did well as a team.”

The striker, who provided the response to Münster’s opener in the 53rd minute, praised how the team fought for one another. “For the equaliser I just gambled on the goalkeeper not holding onto the ball,” said Sylla, explaining his thoughts after Mehmet Can Aydin’s shot. His suspicions turned out to be correct.
The goalscorer was in the right place at the right time once again moment later. “I definitely had a bit of luck with the winner, but you also have to be in the right place,” said the attacker, who threw himself at Münster defender Lukas Frenkert as he attempted to clear the ball, with it deflecting off Sylla’s chest and up into the back of the net.
The Knappen have definitely been missing that little bit of luck so far this season on a couple of occasions. Moussa Sylla and his teammates would like to carry the momentum from winning this all NRW clash into the game next week. “Our focus now turns towards preparing for the home game against Hertha BSC,” said the matchwinner. The game against the Alte Dame will take place on Saturday (5/10) at 20:30 CEST.
