Michael Langer remains at S04 in a new role

Michael Langer’s career with FC Schalke 04 is set to continue after his retirement as a player. The former goalkeeper will undertake a trainee programme in sport management until the end of the 2025/26 season. This follows on from his sport management studies, which the 40-year-old completed in November 2024, during the final season of his playing career.

The Royal Blues began Tuesday (5/8) with an open training session for fans as part of their preparation for their trip to face the Red Devils. New signing Hasan Kurucay was in training with the rest of the team. The centre-half, who put pen to paper a week ago, is now in full training, having previously only been able to join parts of first-team training.

Aged eight, he switched from SV Zweckel to the U9s at FC Schalke 04, and the left-footer has since come through the ranks of every youth team at the Knappenschmiede. On Friday (1/8), he finally fulfilled his big dream against Hertha BSC. “I’ve worked towards this moment for many years,” said the 20-year-old, who was named in the starting XI against the Berliners and was able to celebrate his professional debut.
