Rouven Schröder: Everybody is working together towards the same goal

Rouven Schröder has been increasingly asked questions like “what would happen if?” and “have you already planned for?” recently, with his answer always the same: “We haven’t achieved anything yet!” Schalke’s sporting director would rather not speak about the future and results from other grounds. Instead, his full focus is on S04’s match on Saturday at home (7/5, 20:30 CEST). “We’re just concentrating on ourselves and how we can beat St. Pauli,” stressed the 46-year-old.

Thomas Ouwejan: We have to win our games

There was a concerning moment just before the final whistle in Sandhausen on Friday night. Thomas Ouwejan, who had only just made his return from injury, was clattered by Alou Kuol in the fifth minute of added time. The SVS man was sent off for the tackle.

Darko Churlinov: We need that level of passion against St. Pauli

Darko Churlinov was one of the stand-out players in the 2-1 win over Sandhausen. The North Macedonia international was a nuisance for the home side’s defence throughout the game. Simon Terodde’s opener came from a rebound from a Churlinov shot which hit the post and this was the catalyst for The Royal Blues. The 21-year-old thrilled the crowd with his passion and his strong challenges.

Rouven Schröder: We need this togetherness

The scenes after the full-time whistle on Saturday (23/4) were very similar to those after matches in recent weeks. The team stood in front of the fans as they sang songs and celebrated their players. There was one key difference, however. After having won each of the last five games, the players were actually disappointed after this match, having lost 4-1 to SV Werder Bremen. Sporting director Rouven Schröder was quick to ensure that the players got their heads up after this defeat.
