S04 defeat Nürnberg 3-1 thanks to goals from Karaman and Sylla

FC Schalke 04 beat 1. FC Nürnberg 3-1 at home on Saturday afternoon (25/1). The Royal Blues raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 15 minutes courtesy of goals from Kenan Karaman and Moussa Sylla. After Stefanos Tzimas pulled one back for the visitors, Sylla restored S04’s two-goal lead before the break with his header, the final goal of the game.

The Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) has confirmed the timings for further fixtures in the new year. FC Schalke 04 will play three times on a Sunday and once each on a Friday and Saturday across matchdays 20 to 24.

Youri Mulder: It’s fun watching this team play

There was a lot to please Youri Mulder during the home match at the VELTINS-Arena against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday (14/12). 19 shots, the majority of the possession and impressive passing accuracy formed a good picture. On top of that, the use of space, intensity in tackling and splendid sequences with the ball would have given the Dutchman reason to smile. He is set to remain as director of professional football until the end of the season while he has already stepped back from duties on the supervisory board.

Moussa Sylla on his chances, goal and celebration

On Saturday (14/12), Moussa Sylla was close to bringing out his celebration on multiple occasions before he was finally able to on 72 minutes. After his equaliser against Fortuna Düsseldorf, the striker put the ball under his shirt and his thumb in his mouth. “The celebration was for my wife. She’s pregnant. We’re really excited about a new addition to the family,” said the 25-year-old. He doesn’t want to say yet if it’s a boy or a girl.

Kees van Wonderen and his opposite number Daniel Thioune reflected on an entertaining game at the post-match press conference, with both coaches agreeing that Fortuna goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier was the reason that Schalke only got a point.
