Karel Geraerts: We are flexible – which is just what we want to be

Competitive football is back! After six weeks of pre-season, including the training camp in Mittersill and a number of friendlies, FC Schalke 04 host Eintracht Braunschweig on matchday 1 of the new season at the VELTINS-Arena on Saturday night (3/8) at 20:30 CEST. Karel Geraerts is looking forward to the start of the 2024/25 campaign: “I’m excited about the atmosphere at the ground. We feel ready to put in a good performance,” said the head coach.

Together with 11teamsports and adidas: S04’s new away kit in the colours of Gelsenkirchen

All roads lead to Schalke: The new 2024/25 away shirt, presented by the Royal Blues in partnership with suppliers 11teamsports and adidas, is dedicated to the home city of the Knappen. And right there, in the centre of Gelsenkirchen, is where it will be available to see for the first time: S04 and BOGESTRA have come together to get this shirt launch right on track. Line 302, which connects the neighbouring cities of Gelsenkirchen and Bochum, was given a matching look and will be underway along this route for half a year.

Leo Greiml joins NAC Breda

Leo Greiml will now play his football in the Eredivisie having moved from FC Schalke 04 to NAC Breda. The 23-year-old has received a contract at the newly-promoted Eredivisie side until 2026.

Key player Tomas Kalas has signed a new contract at FC Schalke 04. The defender’s deal is now valid until 30th June 2027.

90 minutes for Cissé but Mali miss out on knockout stage

Ibrahima Cissé’s Olympic journey has come to an end. The Schalke centre-back’s Mali side were beaten 1-0 by Paraguay in their final group game on Tuesday, 30th July. Our number 22 was named in the starting line-up and played the full 90 minutes in Paris.

Shakhtar Donetsk UCL tickets packages now on sale for all fans

Tickets packages for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Champions League games at Schalke’s home ground are now officially on general sale. So far, only S04 members and season-ticket holders have been able to get hold of tickets, but now all fans are able to secure a tickets package at tickets.schalke04.de. The price for all four games begins at €105, working out at around as little as €26 per match.

Emil Højlund and Luca Podlech return to team training

On Monday, 29th July, two days after their friendly match against Leeds United, FC Schalke 04 began the final week of training ahead of their opening league game against Eintracht Braunschweig. Emil Højlund is back after missing the match against the English side due to a cold. The forward will train alongside his teammates for a significant portion of the session.

Head coach Karel Geraerts wasn’t unhappy after FC Schalke 04’s 2-0 friendly defeat against Leeds United on Saturday (27/7), though he stressed that “he wasn’t happy with the result.” Ultimately though, the result of the game played at SV Westfalia Rhynern’s ground wasn’t the most important thing.

First appearance at the Olympics for Ibrahima Cissé

Mali and Ibrahima Cissé were narrowly beaten at the Olympics on Saturday night (27/7). They lost their second group game at the tournament 1-0 to Japan at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique in Bordeaux. Schalke’s centre back played the full game and recorded an impressive challenge success rate.

S04 beaten by Leeds United in final pre-season friendly

FC Schalke 04 played Leeds United in a friendly match on Saturday (27/07), but were beaten 2-0 at SV Westfalia Rhynern’s ground in their dress rehearsal ahead of next weekend’s season opener. An eventful first half somehow ended goalless, before Mateo Joseph (57’) and Joël Piroe (65’) earned victory for the Championship side after the break.

Karel Geraerts: It’s important to me to have a plan B

There was a lot of positives on display but one thing missing: goals. Schalke’s friendly against FC Twente on Wednesday evening (24/7) ended in a 0-0 draw. Afterwards, head coach Karel Geraerts, captain Kenan Karaman and Tobias Mohr gave their verdicts on the game.
