Hasan Kurucay in full training

The Royal Blues began Tuesday (5/8) with an open training session for fans as part of their preparation for their trip to face the Red Devils. New signing Hasan Kurucay was in training with the rest of the team. The centre-half, who put pen to paper a week ago, is now in full training, having previously only been able to join parts of first-team training.

Nikola Katic sidelined with concussion – consultation held with DFB

Nikola Katic was diagnosed with a concussion following Friday evening’s match against Hertha BSC (01/08). As is standard in such cases, he spent the night under medical observation but was discharged on Saturday morning (02/08) and allowed to return home. He will not take part in training for the time being and will continue to be monitored by the club’s medical team. FC Schalke 04 wish Nikola a full and speedy recovery.

Schalke 04 sign Hasan Kurucay

FC Schalke 04 have strengthened their defence with the signing of Hasan Kurucay, who joins the Royal Blues on a contract running until 30th June 2027. The 27-year-old spent last season playing for Belgian top-flight side OH Leuven, having previously spent a year and a half at Eintracht Braunschweig. He will wear the number 4 shirt at Schalke.

Steve Noode joins Union Titus Pétange on loan

Young defender Steve Noode has agreed another loan move away from FC Schalke 04. He will spend the 2025/26 season with Union Titus Pétange in Luxembourg’s top flight to gain more match experience in Europe. Sidney Sam, FC Schalke 04’s loan manager, will keep a close eye on Noode during his time away from the club.

FC Schalke 04 will kick off their fifth week of pre-season training on Tuesday (22/07) with an open session. A handful of players will need to ease into the week’s action, while two will join the U23 squad for the time being.

Mertcan Ayhan signs long-term contract

Young defender Mertcan Ayhan has extended his contract with FC Schalke 04 until 30th June 2028 – with no release clause included. Both parties will also have the option of extending the contract by a further season. The 18-year-old has been part of the first team for pre-season and has featured in multiple friendlies, including the full 90 minutes against Dutch side FC Twente in a goalless draw last Saturday (19/7).

S04 back in Gelsenkirchen to continue pre-season preparations

The Royal Blues started training on Wednesday morning (16/7) ahead of their two friendlies this coming weekend. Miron Muslic’s team arrived back in Gelsenkirchen on Monday (14/7) following their training camp in Austria. They will take on FC Twente this Saturday (19/7) and Rot Weiss Ahlen away from home the following day (20/7).

New team council confirmed

Head coach Miron Muslic announced the new team council on Friday morning (11/7) at the training camp in Stubaital. The council will consist of five players.

Schalke complete Nikola Katic signing

FC Schalke 04 have signed defender Nikola Katic, with the Bosnia international committing to the club until 30th June 2028. The 28-year-old most recently played for Plymouth Argyle in the English Championship, working under now S04 head coach Miron Muslic since February 2025.

Johannes Siebeking signs first professional contract

Schalke have retained the services of goalkeeping prospect Johannes Siebeking as the 19-year-old puts pen to paper on a deal running until 30th June 2029. The two-footed keeper will regularly train with the senior side, while also gaining match practice with the U23s. Siebeking completes the cohort of first-team goalkeepers alongside Loris Karius, Justin Heekeren and Luca Podlech, with the latter also having come through the Knappenschmiede. Former Schalke player Volkan Ünlü will oversee goalkeeper training from this summer, having been promoted from the Royal Blues’ U19 team.

Two Schalke players to undergo operations

Following consultations regarding the best possible treatment methods for each, Kenan Karaman and Tomas Kalas will both undergo knee surgery. The two operations will be performed in due course.
