Fan Project

The Schalke fan project is another body besides the fan department that looks after the concerns of Schalke fans. Established in January 1994, it deals first and foremost with the needs of the club's younger fans. Stemming violence and fighting racism and other forms of discrimination are its principal aims.

The main work of the fan project includes travel and leisure offerings, such as the organisation of coaches to away games for young fans at pocket-money prices and without alcohol and nicotine.

Another offering is a project aimed at schools that is supported by the club’s own charitable foundation. Fan project workers also accompany fans to all home and away games and are available as contact points for anyone who needs them.

The fan project is funded by the Gelsenkirchen City Council, the North Rhine-Westphalia state government and the German Football League (DFL). It is run by Gelsensport, the umbrella organisation of the 267 sports clubs in Gelsenkirchen. The fan project maintains close links to security organisations, the police, the German Football Association (DFB), the DFL and the fan projects of other clubs.
