Information for away fans

Arrival

The VELTINS-Arena is accessible via bus or car using the many motorways in the Ruhr area.

Exits 6 (Gelsenkirchen-Buer) and 7 (Herten) on the A2, and exit 17 (Gelsenkirchen-Schalke) on the A42 will take you directly to the VELTINS-Arena. Once you have exited the junction, the route to the stadium is clearly signposted.

The car parks for away fans can be found on Berni-Klodt-Weg. Buses will need to take a left turn to reach the Gelsenwasser car park, which charges 20 Euro per bus. Cars should turn right into the free-of-charge E2 car park.

Travel on public transport to the ground is possible from Gelsenkirchen Hauptbahnhof (Central Station). There are shuttle buses on offer at the south exit of the station that travel directly to the VELTINS-Arena. These buses will drop you off at the Gelsenwasser car park.

For individuals with restricted mobility, the stadium can be reached by travelling to Willy-Brandt-Allee, using the tram line 302. This stop does not have any steps and is not far from the Arena. Follow the signs to the stadium.

Finding your way to the stadium

From the car parks, you can reach the stadium by following Berni-Klodt-Weg northwards.

The entrances to Blocks V and W, and the other away blocks are different. Ticket holders for Blocks V and W should take a left turn at Wegwasser onto Hermann-Eppenhoff-Weg. The south entrance is not far from here.

Visitors with tickets for other areas of the ground will need to follow Berni-Klodt-Weg to “Eingang Ost 2” (East Entrance 2).

S04 volunteers will be stood near every entrance and are available to help with any questions. The team all wear green jackets.

Catering

The VELTINS-Arena has its method of paying for food and drinks: the “Knappenkarte”. These cards can be purchased and topped up in the away sections and can be used before, during and after the game.

Opening time

The gates always open two hours before kick-off.

In an ideal situation, bags larger than DIN A4 size are not to be taken into the stadium and should be left at home or in cars. However, if a large bag is necessary, you can hand it in for free at the “Eingang Süd” (south entrance) or “Eingang Ost 2” (east entrance 2). You will be given a token that must be returned in order to get your bag back. Stickers are also not allowed to be taken into the stadium and will be confiscated by security at the entrance.
