Trio absent from training at the start of the week

FC Schalke 04 resumed training on Monday (20/1) ahead of next weekend’s match against 1. FC Nürnberg (25/1). Head coach Kees van Wonderen was without Derry John Murkin, Emil Højlund and Justin Heekeren for the afternoon session.

Højlund in demand, Lasme working individually, Murkin injured

Emil Højlund was a man in demand after his first training session with Schalke on Tuesday (16/7). The new signing from Copenhagen took time to sign autographs and take photos with the fans following his first day at the club. Bryan Lasme was also on the training ground and trained with the ball for the first time in a few days.

Derry John Murkin: That was my best day so far in a Schalke shirt

Derry John Murkin will be forced to sit out the game against Hamburg through suspension. Despite that, the 24-year-old is looking forward to the start of the second half of the season, hoping to return to action from matchday 19. Derry John Murkin joins Schalke 04

FC Schalke 04 have signed left-back Derry John Murkin from Eredivisie side FC Volendam. The 24-year-old has signed a contract until 30th June 2026. The full-back will wear the number 5 shirt at Schalke.
