Marc Wilmots and Karel Geraerts leave S04 with immediate effect

After intensive conversations, the FC Schalke 04 board have decided to part ways with sporting director Marc Wilmots and head coach Karel Geraerts with immediate effect. This was shared with both of them in private conversations on Saturday (21/9). Geraerts‘ assistant Tim Smolders has also left the club.

Marc Wilmots: We have planned for many years ahead

FC Schalke 04 have announced four new signings in just the last few days, with Christopher Antwi-Adjei, Ilyes Hamache, Steve Noode and Mauro Zalazar all coming through the door. Marc Wilmots reported that the club are no longer planning to bring anyone else in, however changes to the squad could still be possible up until the transfer window’s conclusion on Friday (30/8).

Marc Wilmots arrives in Albufeira: Meet the team, gather a first impression and get started

It’s been a busy few days for Marc Wilmots. The new sporting director immediately set about his work after signing a contract. On Friday (05/01), the Belgian arrived at Schalke 04’s training camp in Albufeira together with new CEO Matthias Tillmann in order to greet the players, coaches and staff and introduce himself.

Marc Wilmots appointed new sporting director of FC Schalke 04

FC Schalke 04 have appointed Marc Wilmots as their new sporting director, as part of a restructuring of the club’s sporting management team. The 54-year-old Belgian put pen to paper on a long-term deal on Wednesday (3/1). André Hechelmann will take up the newly-created role of technical director.
