Johannes Geis heads to Sevilla on loan
Johannes Geis will spend the remainder of the 2017/18 season on loan at FC Sevilla. The exact details of the deal between FC Schalke 04 and the Spanish side, who have qualified for the group stage of this season's Champions League competition, remain undisclosed. The transfer is able to take place as a result of the slightly later closure of the Spanish transfer window, which remains open until midnight tonight (1st September).
‘We didn’t plan to lose Geisi,’ said sporting director Christian Heidel. ‘He came to us last night and asked for the opportunity to move to FC Sevilla for ten months. After careful consideration, we decided to grant him his wish.’
The 24-year-old expressed his thanks for Heidel’s decision. ‘I’m grateful to Schalke 04 for allowing me to move to Sevilla for a short while,’ he commented.
The midfielder transferred to the Royal Blues from 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the summer of 2015. He played 28 Bundesliga games in his first season in Gelsenkirchen, scoring two goals, along with making eight appearances in the Europa League and one in the DFB Cup, scoring one goal in each competition. Last season, he appeared 24 times (18 in the Bundesliga, five in the Europa League, one in the DFB Cup). He is yet to appear for Schalke this season.
