Daniel Caligiuri: The lads played with courage

Against SC Freiburg, Daniel Caligiuri and Guido Burgstaller got on the scoresheet. We spoke to them both after the 2-0 win.

Daniel Caligiuri

Daniel Caligiuri:

We’re glad that we were effective once again and got a sixth win in a row. Freiburg didn’t make it easier for us though. In the second half, we changed it up and that helped a lot. We know we weren’t perfect but we showed our mental strength once again and are in a good place right now. The streak says everything about the team: they worked tirelessly and courageously. Eventually, we won a penalty. Before it was taken, we decided there and then on the pitch that I would take it. In Leverkusen, I let Nabil take it. Today, it was my turn. At the end of the day, all that really matters is that the ball went in.

Guido Burgstaller:

We had to be very patient today. We started brightly but couldn’t quite score. Then, we faded before the break and you have to say that Freiburg played well. The opposition were compact and didn’t give us any space. At the break, we made some amendments and pressed Freiburg higher up the pitch and did better. Over the 90 minutes, we were the deserved winners as we had more chances.
