Dimitrios Grammozis: This win came from desire and passion

After Schalke’s 1-0 win against FC Augsburg, both coaches gave their thoughts on the game at the post-match press conference. Schalke04.de bring you these quotes plus some words from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Dimitrios Grammozis

Dimitrios Grammozis:

We are really happy to get a taste of victory. I am happy for the players because they have worked really hard at training in recent weeks. This win came from desire and passion. I am also happy for our fans who were able to enjoy their Sunday evening. We had a good game, tried to get the ball to Klaas-Jan Huntelaar over the wings and keep getting further forward. We did that especially well in the opening 25 minutes. We also defended very well against a team that is very dangerous on the counter after losing possession. The last few minutes were a defensive battle. Every player that came on from the bench gave us another push to see out this victory. I felt after the Leverkusen game as though it had given the players more confidence. Ahead of today’s game we said to ourselves, it’s not good enough just to play well, we need the points to prove it. The feeling after today’s game was indescribable – like falling in love for the first time.

Heiko Herrlich:

The early goal meant we had to play differently from how we’d planned. We wanted to keep a clean sheet for as long as possible. The goal meant it was on us to respond and we were a few paces behind for a while. We had more possession and created chances, including two or three good ones in the second half. It is frustrating that we couldn’t find an equaliser. The opposition goal was pretty much out of bounds for us today.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar:

We worked really hard for this win. The deciding factor was taking one of the chances that we got. We started really well and had a goal to show for that. That obviously gave us even more confidence for the rest of the game. We worked really well together today. We’re taking things one step at a time – next week we want to win again.
