Domenico Tedesco: We’ll take a point

After the clash at Borussia-Park, Domenico Tedesco and Gladbach’s Dieter Hecking took out the time to discuss the 90 minutes which had just taken place. Here’s what they had to say.

Domenico Tedesco nach dem Abpfiff in Mönchengladbach.

Domenico Tedesco:

I’m very happy about the manner in which we played today. Aside from the first 15 minutes, we were very good. Our performance was worthy of a point. We controlled large parts of the game and didn’t let much get past us. That’s not easy against a team with the likes of Thorgan Hazard and Lars Stindl. At the end, we almost snatched all three points and, with a bit of luck, we could have won but we’ll take a point.

Before the break, we knew both decisions had been checked by the referee. I think it was definitely a foul on Caligiuri. Our opponents might not see it like that and I understand that. Last weekend, we received a tough penalty decision against us because of VAR. I think you just have to say it depends on your perspective. You can’t definitively say if it was a foul or not. It’s subjective.

Dieter Hecking:

I thought we were the better team in the first half. After the break, Schalke gathered momentum on the counter. It was a very entertaining game of football. I was frustrated about the penalty being ruled out. I think Daniel Caligiuri tried to draw a foul from Oscar Wendt and the referee initially took my side but that decision was overruled seconds later which I find questionable but I have to deal with it. Whether Lars Stindl was offside for his goal, I don’t know. I haven’t seen the incident on TV yet.
