Éder Balanta: I can hardly wait for kick off

After the full time whistle in Mönchengladbach, Éder Balanta and his teammates went over and thanked the travelling fans for their loud support at the Borussia-Park. The Colombian, who had joined FC Schalke 04 on loan from Brugges just a few days before the clash against a fellow Rhineland side and made his debut against the Foals, was impressed with the Royal Blues’ support. “That was incredible. It felt like a home game,“ said the 29-year-old.

The fact the ‚Knappen‘ are always so strongly supported was already known to the midfielder before he signed for the club. “S04 are a very popular team in South America,” stated Balanta. He confessed himself that he is very proud to now be a Royal Blue. He is also proud of the fact that head coach Thomas Reis placed his trust in him and he went straight into the starting eleven against Borussia playing as a lone six. “When the coach told me that I would start I was very happy,” said Balanta. “I feel very comfortable as a six. My aim is to give the team stability.“

Only a question of time

The Colombia international was pleased with the performance of his new team. “Unfortunately, we didn’t take our opportunities. We had the chances to win the game –and I think that it would have been a deserved win,” said the winter new signing. “Nevertheless, I see it as a positive 90 minutes. We showed that we are on the right track. In my eyes, it is only a question of time until we will win a game.

It will definitely be an amazing feeling to have around 60,000 Schalke fans behind us and will give my teammates and I a lot of energy

If it was down to him, this would happen in the very next game on Friday (10/02) against VfL Wolfsburg. “I can hardly wait for kick off, and I am looking forward to the atmosphere in the VELTINS-Arena enormously. It will definitely be an amazing feeling to have around 60,000 Schalke fans behind us and will give my teammates and I a lot of energy,” said Balanta.

The defensive midfielder has stated that he has found his introduction to the team and the club good. His new teammates have taken him in really well, and, “After a week at Schalke I can say: The team has a lot of quality. We have lots of good lads in the team. So, I am convinced that in the coming weeks we will also be successful. We know the table, and have to pick up the best possible results game by game.”
