Leon Goretzka: The first half was really, really poor

After the final whistle, Guido Burgstaller and Leon Goretzka were in agreement in Hamburg: the hosts deserved to win. We spoke to the disappointed duo after the game.

Leon Goretzka:

The first half was really, really poor. We didn’t get into the game and didn’t win the second ball. Hamburg took the fight out of us. The 1-0 lead wasn’t a solid one. It’s tough to explain that. You have to keep fighting to win games and, after you’ve done the hard yards, you can start to play nice football. We didn’t prioritise properly today. In the second half, we did better. HSV’s goals were unfortunate from our perspective but they deserved to win.

Guido Burgstaller:

We didn’t play how we wanted to in the first half. We knew Hamburg would be pumped up with the fans behind them and they were. Over the 90 minutes, we were second best. HSV played well but we didn’t. We knew where we went wrong and we can’t let that happen again.
