“It’s a huge club with a big history and I can’t wait to get started here”, said the Liverpool-born defender, who has also played on loan at Wigan Athletic and Oxford United, having come through the Everton youth academy.

The England U21 international is taking his next step forward in his development by joining Schalke 04, not only on the pitch but also personally. “To be away from home will mean that I will develop as a person as well. To be at such a big club like Schalke, will mean that I will become a better footballer,” Kenny said, convinced.

The right-back is extremely excited to play in front of a packed out VELTINS-Arena with 60,000 fans looking on. Gelsenkirchen is similar to Liverpool in terms of it being a working city. “The people love and breathe football here. It is similar to where I come from,” said Kenny, who said that David Wagner was a big influence in his loan move to the club. “The way he gets his team to play football, I like it. It is my way of playing.”
