Moments of the year: Augsburg, Nürnberg, the derby and a milestone birthday

What were the highlights of 2018? schalke04.de has asked various players what their favourite moments of the past year were. In the second part, Steven Skrzybski, Naldo, Daniel Caligiuri and Benjamin Stambouli give their responses.

Jubel in Augsburg

Steven Skrzybski:

The game against 1. FC Nürnberg was just a great day all round. There was some amazing tifo in the stadium before the game – I had goosebumps as we came out of the tunnel. The fact that I started my first game for the club also made the day unforgettable for me. To then score two goals and win 5-2 was just the icing on the cake. I will remember this day for the rest of my life.

Naldo:

Last year my favourite memory was the 4-4 draw in the derby, which is hard to top. I did have a similar feeling after our win in Augsburg on the penultimate matchday of last season, as we had secured second place in the Bundesliga. We celebrated in the changing rooms and then ate together as a team once we returned home. It was a very long night indeed!

Daniel Caligiuri:

My family and friends organised a surprise party in January for my 30th birthday. I didn’t have a clue that all the people close to me had planned something so big for me. Another unforgettable moment was the team trip to Barcelona. We were able to look back on a successful season and carry on celebrating.

Benjamin Stambouli:

On the pitch, the best moment definitely had to be the derby win in April. After the 2-0 home win, we were all aware that we could finish as runners-up and qualify for the Champions League. Away from football, my summer holiday was a personal highlight. I went to Spain with my girlfriend, my parents, my brother and his wife, as well as my nephews. I really enjoyed the time we spent there. It was the first time that my whole family had gone on holiday together outside of France.
