Ten S04 players on international duty

Ten Schalke players are set to feature for their national sides in the second international break of the season. Several could feature in the UEFA Nations League as well as in crucial qualification matches for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations. Many European nations will also be in U21 European Championship qualifying action as the competition reaches its climax.

Uth receives first call up, Rudy back in the squad

Mark Uth has received his first inclusion in the Germany squad for their two UEFA Nations League matches away in Amsterdam against the Netherlands (Saturday, 13th October) and in Paris against France (Tuesday, 16th October). Germany have already faced the world champions once in a goalless draw in Munich and Sebastian Rudy is also back in the squad as Germany go in search of their first Nations League win.

For Uth, the anticipation is high. “It is a dream come true for me. To be called up for the national team is the pinnacle of my career. “Germany head coach Joachim Löw explained: “We have been watching Mark Uth for a while. He is a dynamic and fast player who is always dangerous in front of goal. We now want to get to know him better.”

Austria include Burgstaller and Schöpf

Guido Burgstaller and Alessandro Schöpf are in the Austria for their UEFA Nations League match against Northern Ireland in Vienna on Friday, 12th October. Austria started their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 away defeat to Bosnia & Herzegovina and have a friendly away in Denmark next Tuesday (16th October).

Konoplyanka wants to keep Ukraine top of the table

Ukraine, who are top of their League B group in the UEFA Nations League after victories over the Czech Republic and Slovakia, will host the Czechs in Kiev on Tuesday, 16th October. Yevhen Konoplyanka is in the squad for this match and a friendly against Italy in Genoa on Wednesday (10th October).

Bentaleb faces Benin twice

Nabil Bentaleb and his Algeria teammates will face Benin twice over the international break as both teams attempt to qualify from Group D of Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. Both Algeria and Benin have four points from their opening two matches and the teams will meet in Blida, Algeria in Friday (12th October) before the return game in Cotonou on Tuesday, 16th October.

Mendyl faces the Comoros

Hamza Mendyl is part of the Moroccan squad that will face the Comoros twice in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. The first match is at home in Marrakech on Saturday, 13th October before the return game takes place on Tuesday, 16th October in Mitsamiouli. Morocco have taken three points from their opening two matches while Comoros lost both their opening two matches.

Sané to face Sudan with Senegal

Salif Sané has been included in the Senegal squad for their two matches against Sudan, the first at home in Dakar on Saturday (13th October) before Senegal travel to Khartoum on Tuesday, 16th October. Senegal are top of Group A with four points while Sudan are yet to score their first point of qualifying.

Nübel and Teuchert hoping to secure their places at the European Championship

Alexander Nübel and Cedric Teuchert are both part of the Germany U21s squad that will hope to secure qualification for next summer’s European Championship in Italy. Germany face Norway in Ingolstadt on Friday (12th October) before welcoming the Republic of Ireland in Heidenheim on Tuesday, 16th October. A victory in one of the two matches would be enough for Germany to secure their place in next summer’s tournament.

Embolo and McKennie miss out with injury

Two Schalke players had been called up to their international squads but have had to withdraw due to injury. Breel Embolo is out of the Switzerland squad due to a shoulder problem while Weston McKennie will miss the two USA friendlies due to a calf injury.
