Yaroslav Mikhailov and Russia qualify for European U19 Championship

Success for Yaroslav Mikhailov: The Schalke midfielder was part of the team that managed to secure the Russia U19s’ spot in the upcoming European U19 Championship. They beat Germany 3-1 in their second qualifying match of the group stage being held in Greece, meaning they have taken six points from two games.

The Russian goalscorers in Patras were Artem Sokolov (40’), Jaroslav Gladyshev (47’) and Eduard Bagrintsev (70’). BVB player Göktan Gürpüz scored a consolation goal in added time for Hannes Wolf’s team. In their first match, the Russians beat hosts Greece 1-0. Yaroslav Mikhailov was in the starting eleven again before being taken off five minutes before the end.

The win means Russia are top of Group 2 ahead of their final group game against the Faroe Islands on Tuesday (16.11) with a maximum six points. The top two teams in each group go through, meaning that Russia have already booked their spot at the tournament which will be held in spring 2022.
