Benjamin Stambouli: training is tough but that’s a good thing

The midfielder described the mood in camp as “very good” and labeled the players “very focused”. Stambouli isn’t concentrating on tactical and positional play just yet, with the focus fully on fitness levels before the new campaign.

Last season, the 28 year old was vice captain behind goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann, who will spend the coming campaign on loan at Norwich City. It has not yet been decided who will wear the captain’s armband this year. “Each of the experienced players are part captains at the moment and are trying to guide the younger players,” said Stambouli, who insists the issue is not a huge one. “It was always an honour for me to lead the team out as captain. But I’m the exact same player, whether I’m wearing the armband or not.”
