“Henning showed last season how important he can be for the team. He’s fully deserved this contract extension,” commented head coach Thomas Reis. “We will continue to enjoy working with his excellent attitude, his versatility and his pace.”

Pleased about the faith shown in him

“I’m pleased about the trust placed in me and proud to have signed a contract extension at Schalke,” said Henning Matriciani. “Together with the team and our fans, I want to fully attack the challenge of returning to the Bundesliga.”

Henning Matriciani signed for FC Schalke 04’s U23s in summer 2020 from SV Lippstadt. He made his Bundesliga debut in May 2021 after impressive performances in the Regionalliga West. The defender then signed his first professional contract that summer, before going on to win promotion back to the top flight with the Royal Blues the following season. The 23-year-old featured 22 times in the Bundesliga this season and made his Germany U21s debut in March against Romania.
