Goalkeeper Michael Langer signs a one-year contract extension

FC Schalke 04 have extended goalkeeper Michael Langer’s contract until 30th June 2024. The 38-year-old will now therefore go into his seventh season with the club.

“Last season once again showed how Michael supports the team and how important he is. He is a true professional in every situation,” said sporting director André Hechelmann. “He possesses lots of experience and knows what to expect as we look to win promotion back to the Bundesliga. He will be an important figure for our younger players.”

“Michael gives his best in every training session and always look to improve,” commented head coach Thomas Reis. “He’s an important part of our goalkeeping team, he looks out for his teammates and is also always a friendly ear. I’m really pleased that he’s staying at the club and I will continue to have him in my squad.”

I’m really happy to be staying here for another year – I fully identify with the club and its values.

Michael Langer is also pleased about his new deal: “I never thought that I would stay so long at Schalke when I joined six years ago, so this just makes it even more special. I’m really happy to be staying here for another year – I fully identify with the club and its values.”

The goalkeeper signed for S04 in 2017 from Swedish side IFK Norrköping to become the club’s third-choice shot stopper. He has since proven himself as a valued member of the goalkeeping team and a personality in the dressing room.
