FC Schalke 04 are 2. Bundesliga champions!

A day after securing promotion back to the top flight, FC Schalke 04 were able to celebrate being crowned 2. Bundesliga champions. A 5-1 defeat for SC Paderborn 07 in Elversberg on Sunday (3/5) means that the Royal Blues can no longer be caught at the top of the standings, with an eight-point lead over second place with two matchdays left.

After winning 20, drawing seven and losing just five of their 32 games to date, the title comes as a deserved recognition of Schalke’s strong performances this season. The club currently sit top with 67 points, a whole six more than last season’s champions, 1. FC Köln.

Head coach Miron Muslic’s side have been in a promotion spot ever since matchday 8. They first moved into top spot on matchday 14, and have only slipped out of it momentarily on one occasion since then.

Unbeaten in their last 12 games

Taking into account yesterday’s 1-0 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf, Schalke are now unbeaten in each of their last 12 matches – the longest such run of any side in the division. They have won each of their last five games and will have a chance to equal the club record of six consecutive victories in the second division in Nuremberg this weekend.

S04 have suffered just one defeat on home soil all season, after losing eight times at the VELTINS-Arena in 2024/25. Additionally, the Royal Blues have the best defensive record in the division, letting in just 28 goals.

Conceding less than a goal per game on average

Schalke are the only side across both the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga to have conceded less than a goal per game on average this season. They have also kept a league-high 13 clean sheets this term.

These impressive numbers serve as confirmation of Schalke’s deserved return to the top flight, with 1,071 days having passed since their most recent Bundesliga game.
